If you like “down home” fun, food and fellowship, event organizers are urging residents to mark Oct. 5 on their calendar now, because that is the day for Faison’s 10th annual Market Day in the Faison Park.
Activities begin with an opening ceremony at 11 a.m. where everyone will be welcomed, and the Farmer of the Year and a Farmer’s Right Hand Man of the Year will be honored. This year organizers say they are also honoring five outstanding citizens who, incidentally are all called Bill. The ceremony is brief but is always a happy one.
Then, entertainment begins which will last all day — vendors start selling vegetables, homemade cakes and goodies, plants, jewelry, crafts, t-shirts and more, the Heather Williams painting will be auctioned off, there will be special activities for children plus a large mural for them to paint, and fun activities will be available for all age groups.
From 5 until 7 p.m., John Moore of Friday Night Sock Hop and Radio Show fame will emcee the Street Dance featuring a variety of dance music and certainly including shag numbers. Come on out and “Hop ‘till you drop, organizers urge.
Keep watch in The Sampson Independent for more information on Market Day and the five Bills.
