I am extremely disappointed that Governor McCrory signed H74 into law, especially weakening state landfill safety provisions. This bill is irresponsible and puts us on the wrong path. It opens the door for extremely hazardous and radioactive wastes to be dumped in landfills. Possibly, the one in Polkton!

According to Industry News, nearly 1,000 trucks in Pennsylvania hauling Marcellus Shale waste were stopped at the landfill gates after tripping radioactivity alarms. It is a proven fact that all landfills will eventually leak. This grab-bag of special interest goodies is just one more step backward for our state.

It’s another sign that the lawmakers we sent to Raleigh care more about appeasing special interest polluters than about protecting the environment and quality of life that makes North Carolina special.

Call Governor Pat McCrory: 1-800-662-7952 or 919-814-2050 and let him know how disappointed you are. Attend the Pee Dee WALL meeting on Sunday, Sept. 8, at 4 p.m. in the Anson County library to learn more.
