An investigation is continuing this evening into a late Saturday afternoon collision that took the life of a 37-year-old Pender County man and a 12-year-old Duplin County girl.
The accident occurred around 5 p.m. on U.S. 421 south near State Road 1140, seven miles north of Harrells, when a 2000 Chervolet Tahoe, driven by 18-year-old Kathleen Regina Perez, 360 Pope Road, Rose Hill, crossed the center line and traveled into the path of an oncoming vehicle, driven by Adalberto Trejo Rodriguez, 37, of 108 South McCullen St., Burgaw.
Ms. Perez was traveling north bound on U.S. 421 and Rodriguez was traveling north on U.S. 421 in a 1999 Chevrolet truck.
Rodriguez was pronounced dead on the scene, said N.C. Highway Patrol Sgt. Bryan Smith.

One of those, 12-year-old Angeles Nicolle Salazar of Rose Hill, died at the hospital just before midnight, and two others were transferred from Sampson Regional to UNC Hospitals. Condition reports on the two minors were not immediately available.
