Anthony O. Vann was recently named the BF Corbett Leadership Academy’s first Man of the Year, an honor bestowed on him by the students volunteers and staff at the Academy’s Young Men of Excellence program.

“In an era when many young African American men face incredible obstacles in life, including challenges in school, a suffering economy and a very large prison system population, the BF Corbett Leadership Academy promotes character-building education for school-age boys. Through your own efforts, you have exemplified the traits we strive to teach and build in the 300 young men and boys we have served,” Dr. Donna Corbett said in presenting Vann the award.

Corbett went on to say that Vannn’s work as a professional is an example of the aspirations young men should be motivated to have. “In your role as an entrepreneur, particularly as president and co-founder of Noire Productions, you have sought to provide quality theatrical, musical and literary stimulation for the African American population. Furthermore, the recognition for your accomplishments in the arts has earned you the coveted selections in the Miss America Organization, and you’ve earned international recognition through your appointment as Ambassador for Gambia by the Office of the President of Gambia.

Although we recognize you for the numerous achievements as a statewide, national and international figure, we are most excited to honor you for your commitment to enhancing the lives of the boys in our vulnerable communities. As an honorary member of the Amazing Grace Etiquette Board of Directors, you have served the community as a volunteer, mentoring and sharing encouragement through motivational speaking. You have shared with so many young men and women how to walk with God, to exude excellence and honor, and to live a life of humility and kindness,” Corbett continued.

In the spirit of Mr. Benjamin F. Corbett, she said, Vann clearly resemblde the late patriarch and community leader’s attributes of integrity, honesty, and a strong work ethic. “For these reasons, we were thrilled to recognize Mr. Vann as the inaugural recipient of the BF Corbett Leadership Academy’s Young Men of Excellence Program Man of the Year.”
